Sorry, but I really have to rant about something that's been bugging me.
My band just got a new band director, so today I get to go meet him, because I'm the clarinet section leader. But we need to bring names and phone numbers of all the people who will be marching in our section this fall to the meeting, of course I heard about this 9:30 last night.
So, I started panicking. I emailed everyone I could to double check who would be marching, and who would not. But this is information that we should already have. Our previous band director went around and asked every band student if they were marching or not, and on what instrument. He also gets estimates of the number of incoming freshman in each section from the two middle schools that feed into my high school. This is information we should have, and I have to go on a wild goose chase to get it.
So either we have the information somewhere, and it just wasn't given to the new guy, or it was lost and we're in a very bad position, because we need to give the numbers to the drill writer, so he can make all of our pretty formations (something that should have been done months ago). Either way, something isn't right.

Yes, it can be incredibly aggravating when the strife of mishandled logistics strikes. Honestly, I don't miss band at all, situations such as yours being only one of multitudinous reasons. I think your situation will improve as this new guy gets used to his job, and until then I say just bear with it and feel free to rant anytime so that I may offer my consolations and virtually useless advice.

this probably won't make you feel better, but it makes me feel better to note that my band probably has the least involved marching band in the state at less. we do one or two parades a year. a question for Fabienne: does your band march in the Grand Floral or the Starlight parade this year?

I believe we have marched in the Grand Floral parade for as long as the school has been around. Though with a new director, it might change. Though I suspect that we wills till march the Grand Floral.
Also October 28, we will be in Vancouver at Evergreen High School for the McKenzie Marching Band competition.
What I figured out what happened, was the band moms had the information (our band mothers are really really wonderful), but the new guy is not used to have good parents who actually do stuff. So the drum majors (who in my opinion are pretty sub-par this year) were asked to supply this information, and they demanded the section leaders to produce it, instead of asking the band moms.

well i'm glad you got it all figured out!! all i have to say is that i'm pretty happy that this year i don't have to be in marching band! it's required at my school for all band students but because i'm a varisty cheerleader (yep that's right VARSITY) but mr. long was like those of you in varsity football, cheerleading or majorettes won't be in fall pep band or marching band- which is stupid because we don't have majorettes anymore!! but yeah then he was like we'll find something else for you to do.... i really hope it's not winter pep- i hate band, i actually have no idea why i'm even in it!

for me, winter pep band is what makes it all worth it, because: 1) we get to play good music (eg. the offspring and the ventures) 2) we get into basketball games for free, plus the ASB pays for our food if we travel 3) no stupid marching or concert uniforms (and our marching uniforms are BAD) 4) I get to play electric bass and chill with the drummers

As of yesterday, i am now officially an upperclassman. words can't really describe how it feels really. the freshmen are all new and don't know whats going on, and for some reason they look to us for responsible guidance and moral support. for some reason, both our band directors believe that freshman are all incredibly insecure and needy. i hope i wasn't like that as a frosh, becuase i don't remember being that way.

I met my new band director today, Todd Zimbelman. He is very hardcore. Such as, he wants to raise band fees (currently $225, plus shoes, district fees, pictures, and other extras), wants to do more fundraising, extend practice two hours longer, and wants to change the fall performance schedule for marching band.
This is going to be a very interesting season.

I hate fundraising. It's so hard and annoying! Like i raised $1000 for cheerleading and then I have to raise like $500 or so for band because I guess we're going on tour to like Chicago this year or next. I really hope it's next because I'm already going to Myrtle Beach for nationals second semester and then if we go on band tour that'll be the rest of my 10 days i think. we can only be gone for 10 days each semester- it's sooo stupid. and i don't know but nationals and band tour might not count since they're school related- i don't know what ever. Yann have you already started school? And what do you consider upperclassmen- just juniors and seniors? or sophmores too? OMG i'm pretty much freaking out because for the opening day assmebly in our gym i have to face the juniors and seniors instead of the sophmores and freshman which would be so much better! I'm just sooo scared that i'll mess up and blow all chances of going out with a junior or a senior- well actually this junior named Andy... he's soooo hot and i'm totally going to ask him to our twirp (like where the girls ask the guys)! ok well fabienne- who knows maybe you're new director will be really serious about the music and so you'll progress a ton. that would be good. how long are practices to begin with? because 2 hours alone is a TON of time to play an instrument.

for my band, we only have to pay $50 and marching only runs for two months at the end of the year with two hour practices. however, our top band has a 16-page piece of music to learn for WIBC this year. our concert band is the crazy part of the program.

we don't have to pay anything to march because it's required.... stupid mr. long..... we actually don't have to pay to be in pep band either. just like sports we have to pay for- cheerleading this year was a $70 payment to the school + fundraising for the cheer fund to go to NatIoNaLs!! why is everything sooo expensive i mean things that shouldn't even be expensive: danielle's examples on what should / should not be expensive 1. louis vuitton hand bag- yes 2. marching band- no 3. Dior sunglasses- yes 4. gas- NO NO NO!! 5. shoes- yes 6. my cell phone bill- shouldn't be but is 7. cars- yes 8. sports- no Everything is so ridiculous nowadays! i might as well move to like India where everything is 2 cents- i'll send ya'll postcards

shoes and cars should not have to cost a lot of money. something cool is that, apprently in some larger colleges, you get payed to be in the pep band. is that awesome or what.

yann- j'ai un question pour toi- do you laugh when you read my comments or do you get mad because i can not tell.... yeah at most colleges if you get like a payment to play sports or music it just goes into you're tuition. i think i do not know. so tonight i went to the fair and i bought this really cool bracelet . it's magnetic and i guess it takes away pain and i think it works- like my wrist doesn't hurt anymore- i hurt it at tennis.... yeah i'm excited about my purchase!

i'm noticeing a rather distrubing trend in these posts. i seem to be becoming a bit to sarcastic or something, and an starting to talk to danielle as i would if i had just known her through school and not as a friend from lac du bois. i'm sorry
anyway, has anyone seen snakes on a plane yet?

my dad and i got into a huge fight over the weekend. it all started when he made me go shopping with him for a birthday present for my mom. i went stright to the hand bag department of dillards and asked to see the coach bags with one in mind and i was about to pull out the debit card when my dad was like no that's too expensive. (it wasn't- only $225- good for coach bags) and then i settled on buying a really cute Gianni bini bag. so in the car he was like you're taste is too expensive blah blah blah and i came back with well i'm not the only one in our family who likes expensive stuff- you have $400 camera that you buy accessories for all the time and Ian (by brother) buys golf and baseball stuff all the time and it's only the best! you just bought him a $300 mitt and it's the end of the season! i et you anything that he costs you guys more money than i do... basically that's what happend yesterday and then today my mom wanted to return some DKNY jeans that i bought and ealier when i tried them on for her she said we'd take them back and get another pair of Lucky's and then today she was like well i don't think you need anymore jeans. and i was like i have like 1 pair! (friday she made me take all the clothes out of my closet that i don't wear or don't fit and out went a lot of my old jeans) and she was like no you have more than that and you can wear capris to school and i was like well i want to wear jeans! and so then my dad hear us yelling at each other and came out of his study and yelled at me to speak nicer to my mom, him and my brother and i was like i do speak nicely to you guys when you don't annoy me! and then he went on about my parents not being here to serve me (as if i even treat them as a servent- name one person who want to buy their servants coach bags!) and then my mom took me shopping because i showed her that i really did only have 1 pair of jeans and when we got home my brother had 3 friends over and they wre running all over the house while ian sat downstairs watching golf. so after they left i was like ian next time don't be so anti-social and then my dad yelled at me again! this time though he told not to be so b**chy. that was a little over the top even my mom said so. so now i'm not talking to him because if i don't talk to him he can't yell at me.... but you guys didn't want to read all this- sorry i just had to get it out somewhere! good news for today: i bought some really good looking jeans- another pairs on order from Gap and i got 2 new pairs of shoes- they're so cute and really comfortable!
