Today I just saw the movie Drumline (I know, I'm slow), and wow, it's so not marching band. I would think the name marching band would signify that maybe you would march on the field. Mostly the bands in the movie did strange hip hopish dance. All the instruments were moving like crazy and at odd angles, so obviously dubbed, because no one can play with an instrument moving around like that!
Sorry, it was really bugging me. And we don't have drumline battles to determine a winner, that's just stupid. We also don't import weird rap people.

the thing you have to keep in mind about that movie is that: a) it's college, not high school b) it's in the Deep South, not the Northwest c) there is only one person in the movie who isn't black d) it's hollywood, where people know absolutly nothing about real band, just about hip-hop and matrix moves.

i like that movie. it would be super cool if people could actually do like hip hop dancing while playing instruments. i must say, i was always bad at that. so basically last year when we did our show to the incredibles song i didn't actually play. i just pretended to. it also didn't help that everything that to be memorized. i suck at memorizing music. our drum corps is crazy good too so like if we did have a drumline battle thing- we would win.

our drumline is about as different as possiblle from the one in the movie. our line is mostly white boy punks who are good at playing set, but really could care less about marching band. we also have these Korean twins who are insanely smart, which begs to question Why are they drummers?
